INTRODUCTION:

Most Christians are preoccupied with finding out what God wants them to do to please Him and spend hours in prayer with this request to God. In today’s passage, Paul reveals God’s heartbeat to the believer, thus worship as a sacrifice from his people—a sacrifice of worship that we have never thought of before. God is asking us to place our entire lives, that is, our bodies, on the altar as a sacrifice as our worship to him. According to the Book of Revelation, that is the purpose for which He created us.

POINTS:

  1. Paul’s clarion call to us believers is that we are God’s cherished possession who have been saved for good works.
  2. Counting our blessings daily should cause us to build our lives on God’s mercy and goodness.
  3. Out of a heart of deep gratitude for His mercies, we should readily recognize what God wants from us and respond.
  4. God is asking us to present in a very practical manner a holy and acceptable sacrifice to Him by placing our bodies/behaviors in His hands to be used for His glory alone.
  5. Are we ready for a life of total surrender to God?

CONCLUSION:

Paul is saying that because of God’s goodness and mercies towards us, we ought to use our ordinary everyday lives, including our dressing and behavior, for God’s purpose and live our physical lives such that the beauty of Christ may be seen in our bodily activities. In short, we should be models of Christ.
